The Story Of Buckler Boots

The concept of Buckler Boots started in 1997 with a blank piece of paper on to which all the short-comings which bedevilled outdoor safety footwear were poured. These short-comings were mainly down to poor quality components (a hangover from the days when most safety boots were cheap and not very cheerful being nearly always black) and poor quality construction. They were uncomfortable, cold, steel toe caps hurt and soles frequently parted from the uppers – and that was when you could get the boots.

Buckler Boots came up with a simple solution: focus on designing and producing the highest quality outdoor safety boots available and back premium products with premium service. It worked. However you cannot write a cheque made payable to “credibility”. It has to be earned and as Tue Mantoni, former CEO of Triumph Motorcycles, said – “it’s worth remembering how long it takes to be an overnight success”.

Buckler Boots was formed in 1998 and since then, by adhering to these original principles, the company has gone on to carve out a special place in the market. The products are backed by a unique “Body and Sole Together Forever“ guarantee and are renowned for their strength, comfort and durability whilst bringing new ideas and product developments to the premium safety boot sector. Prominent amongst these is the Buckbootz neoprene/ rubber safety wellington which has gone on to become the No.1 product of its type in Europe.

In 2007, the company took its business model to mainland Europe and set up a new company in the Netherlands in conjunction with a Dutch business family headed by Kees van den Beukel. Buckler Boots B.V. has taken the Buckler Boots concept to an ever expanding network of dealers on the continent.

When you see the Buckler Boots logos on any footwear product you can be assured that you are looking at some of Europe’s premier work boots; no short cuts just total focus on quality, strength and durability with the kind of understated style you get when you blend the very best components and craftsmanship with classical and innovative designs.

Heart & Soles

At the very heart of a good work boot is a good outsole and there has never been a Buckler Boots style which hasn’t featured rubber outsoles. For Buckler Boots there is no compromising, they can’t see past rubber as the prime work boot sole material and they invest heavily in their own rubber outsole development programmes.

Rubber is tough, durable, stays flexible in a wide temperature range and is abrasion, slip, heat (300ºC for 60 secs) and oil resistant. It also provides superior grip in nearly every conceivable working situation and is resistant to a number of chemicals.

All the rubber outsoles you can see here have been developed by Buckler Boots. If you think you’ve seen other soles which look a bit like them then it’s probably because some of our competitors have seen and liked them too.

K2 Sole
- Originally Buckler Boots signature outsole for Goodyear welted boot styles. Probably the toughest sole of its kind available. K2 put down new markers for strength and durability in work boot outsoles. Certified to SRA anti slip standard.

K3 Sole
- The new generation sole for Goodyear welted leather styles and Buckbootz neoprene/rubber footwear. Features weight saving wave effect sipes and inherits K2’s rugged long life characteristics whilst also achieving SRC maximum anti slip test certification. Looks good too.

Buckshot Sole
- The most exciting Buckler Boots outsole development for some time. Buckshot 2 has been in the development process for over a year and is now introduced on our injection moulded Buckshot 2 boot range. It has some of the best antiabrasion test results achievable. A great looking sole with wave effect sipes, deep cleats and all the outsole benefits which come with rubber plus SRC maximum anti-slip test certification.

Largo Bay Sole
- Even when it comes to bringing the street look to the workplace we insist on real rubber outsoles but - our sneaker soles are different. Mindful of the need for some outsole ‘dig’ in some working conditions, (even with sneaker style safety footwear) we have created a sneaker sole with pronounced cleats, wave effect sipes and a slightly raised heel area without sacrificing that great looking sneaker sole side profile. Comes with SRC maximum anti slip test certification too. Clever and good looking.

Nubuckz Sole
- For our ground breaking new injection moulded Nubuckz safety boot styles we introduce a deep cleated rubber outsole specially designed to interact with the polyurethane top sole in which the Nubuckz ribbed anti scuff toe is an incorporated and defining feature. Nubuckz outsoles are heat resistant to 300ºC and achieve maximum rating SRC anti-slip certification. They are long lasting with rugged good looks.

Technology

Goodyear Welted
- Using a Goodyear Welted construction has a number of advantages. This construction is an extremely robust method of manufacture where a lockstitch sewn welt secures the upper to the inner sole. The upper is carefully pulled over a wooden last to remove all stretch from the leather. Many vulcanised boots are not lasted. Lasting gives a better fit over the life of the boot. Goodyear Welt innersoles are built into the boot, not slipped in afterwards. Goodyear Welted boots have a natural cushion filler between the inner sole and outsole. This means greater comfort and fewer aches if you are on your feet a lot. Goodyear Welted boots are built like quality dress shoes, allowing your feet to breathe. Goodyear Welted boots can be re-soled.

Injection Moulded Construction - Injection Moulding, whilst a different construction technique to Goodyear Welted, keeps our footwear light yet extremely durable. Injection Moulded footwear is constructed using advanced rubber and PU injection, mould and clamping technology.

Seal Bonded - Even lighter weight than both Goodyear Welted and Injection Moulded footwear, a Seal Bonded Sole Construction boot remains lightweight, flexible and keeps a great looking profile.

Leather Lined ' No Sweat' - When you want breathability as well as safety, you need a leather lined boot from Buckler Boots. We use only real cowhide linings, offering natural comfort and a cool feel that man-made linings just can’t match. In fact, our leather linings exceed the European Water Vapour Permeability Test by a factor of three.

Buckflex - The No.1 Dealer Boot range now comes with a built in shoe horn for easy on/easy off, no heel ‘dig’ when driving/operating foot controls plus it helps keep full ankle support and close comfort fit for the lifetime of the boots.

Neoprene - Neoprene resists degradation from sun, ozone and weather. It provides waterproofing, weight saving, insulation and is flexible. It has chemical, abrasion and oil resistance.
