Mountfield 1538H Petrol Ride On Lawn Mower 98cm

The 1538H is a 98cm working width model with a hydrostatic transmission. This high specification garden tractor is suitable for lawns up to 1 acre. Light steering and a tight turning circle make it easy to manoeuvre around trees, borders and garden furniture with the minimum of effort. All Mountfield garden tractors cut wider than the wheel width, which means there is little trimming left to do after the lawns have been mown. A hydrostatic transmission is similar in many ways to the gearbox on an automatic car; forward and reverse speeds are infinitely variable. To move forward you simply press the front section of the pedal; the more firmly you press, the faster you will go. For reverse, press the rear section of the pedal. You can change from forward to reverse instantly, so manoeuverability is fantastic. It is worth noting that once a customer owns a hydrostatic Mountfield tractor they don't want to go back to a manual version. Grass cuttings are blown cleanly from the twin bladed cutter deck into a large capacity rear mounted collector. An alarm sounds to let you know when the collector is full, a valuable feature as there is nothing worse than overfilling the collector and then having to unblock the discharge chute by hand at least you know when the collector is full on a Mountfield!

Emptying the collector is done from the driving seat; simply pull the tipping lever and the collector opens wide emptying out the clippings, you don't need to get off the tractor at all. The seat is also adjustable for added comfort and ease of use while the dash features an LED display. Engaging the cutter deck couldn't be easier; pull out the control switch for 'On' and push it in for 'Off'. The deck has 7 preset cutting heights ranging from 25mm to 80mm selected by using the lever located conveniently beside the seat. No tools are necessary and the cutting height can also be adjusted on the move. A deck wash facility means keeping the deck clean couldn't be simpler; just attach a hose to the snap-on connector, turn on the water and engage the blades. Water blasts around beneath the deck washing it clean - job done! Mountfield lawn tractors are extremely versatile machines; they can collect the grass clippings or if required rear discharge them.

If you decide you don't want to collect your grass then this versatile mower can mulch or rear discharge the clippings by simply fitting a grass deflector (optional extra) or mulching plug (included). Using a deflector is particularly useful when cutting long grass. Mulching the grass allows the clippings to be recycled back in to the ground, improving the soil as they decompose forming a natural fertiliser high in potash and nitrogen.
